Report- 2½ Months Missions in Haiti

December 2011

Morning Prayer Meetings

I joined over 1,000 people daily for Morning Prayer in Port-au-Prince, Haiti

Every morning, on Delmas 31 street in Port-au-Prince, a sound arises of worship and intercession as over 1,000 Haitians gather. Most attending  must walk or take tap-taps (trucks that Haitians crowd into and pay 12 cents a ride). They come desperately hungry for Jesus. The prayer meetings are different from most meetings I have attended in America. Here, they pray unified as one. They pray for revival in Haiti, the Haitian government, and for Jerusalem.

Ministering in the Haitian Countryside

November 2011

This past Sunday, Pastor Jay Threadgill, director of the Fisher’s of Men missions base, sent us out to do ministry about an hour north of Port-au-Prince high up in the mountains. Leah and Nathan, my classmates ministered in a town called Miblais. I went with Christy, a teacher at the school I work at, and Wilner, the manager of the missions base, to a small church deeper in the mountains. When we pulled up, they had already begun singing. I so love the sound of Haitians worshiping Jesus!

Teaching Haitian Kids in Port-au-Prince

October 2011

Teaching a young boy math. In celebration of getting accredited, we had “nerd day”. This was my attempt at dressing like a nerd!

Upon arriving in Port-au-Prince at the beginning of the month, I was surprised to discover my main ministry in Haiti would be one-on-one teaching in the ministry’s K-12 school, Morning Star Christian Academy. The school is an English school. I have had to remember much that I have forgotten like long division, fractions, what in the world an adverb or a predicate nominative is and so on! The kids we are working with are behind. We are helping them get caught up to their grade level.

Video Update from Missions in Port-au-Prince, Haiti

Things are going well in Port-au-Prince. God is doing so much. My primary ministry is coaching children in math, grammar, and word building in a class for students who have fallen behind. Watch the video above to get the latest update!

Working with Haitian Kids in the Inner City

September 2011

For the past two months, I have been working with First Haitian Baptist Church every Sunday morning. The church is located in the inner city a few blocks from my house. I have been teaching Haitian kids songs in both English and Haitian Creole in preparation for our Benefit Worship Concert this Friday for Glory House Services, a Kansas City based ministry working to build schools in Haiti. The first time I taught the six to twelve year olds my song, “Hold Me”, the kids had been crazy the entire time. However, when I started that song, they calmed down and sang along almost immediately. I stopped them to explain that Father God wanted to draw them close and hold them when things were difficult. I told them, “This time sing it right to Father God’s heart. He loves your voice.” They did and I could see on some of the kids’ faces that God was touching them. Please keep these precious Haitian children in your prayers and our concert this Friday.

Three Month Mission Trip to Haiti

October 1st-December 15th 2011

August 2011

When I was sixteen, God touched my heart for the people of Haiti. I borrowed some books from the library and read about the people. My heart broke over story after story of oppression. I began to pray for justice in Haiti.

Eleven years later, God has opened a door for me to go to Haiti for three months. This October 1st-December 15th, I am going to serve Fisher’s of Men Ministries (FOMM) in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. This past January, FOMM hosted 12,000 people at TheCall Solemn Prayer Assembly with Lou Engle on the anniversary of the earthquake. FOMM is a ministry committed to seeing Haiti transformed with the power of the Gospel. Every morning at 6 am, 1,000-2,000 Haitians gather to pray.

Haiti Worships on the Anniversary of Devastation

Special Mission Trip Report- January 8th-18th

January 2011

Over 12,000 gathered for TheCall Haiti to mark the anniversary of the quake with prayer and worship

Last week, I returned from a nine day mission trip to Haiti. I am amazed that in the midst of tragedy, so many Haitian people have chosen to respond with worship. I met many who had lost husbands, wives, and children in the devastating earthquake last year. If I were to recount some of those stories here, your heart would break with pain.

TheCall Haiti

January 12th in Port-au-Prince

The nation of Haiti has experienced so much despair and hopelessness. Last year, an earthquake plummeted Port-au-Prince, the capitol city, and the surrounding areas killing over 200,000. In the past two months, over 2,000 people have lost their lives from a sudden outbreak of Cholera. However, in the midst of hopelessness there is a hope. God Himself has set His affections upon His own special pearl of the Caribbean.

Hold Me

The Story Behind the Song

In 2007, I went through a difficult season of life. A close friend and someone I labored with in prayer for many years committed suicide. In addition, I was having lots of difficultly in my friendships. I was in pain.

Food Distribution Crisis in Haiti

A Biblical Solution

May 2010

On January 12th, an earthquake devastated the nation of Haiti causing the nations of the earth including America to respond with humanitarian aid. Before the earthquake, Haiti was considered the poorest nation in the western hemisphere with 54% of Haitians living in abject poverty (Central Intelegence Agency, 2009). After the earthquake, the situation went from dire to impossible. The compassion of our nation was moved and movie stars and former presidents were stirred to action.
